Welcome to the RolmPhone 244Mac system. There are 4 simple hardware requirements for using this package, A RolmPhone System, a IBM7171 communications controller, a RolmPhone 244pc, and last but most important is
having a Host computer with some type of telecommunications packages in operation(tso,vtam,cics,ims,etc.). Usually if you meet the first requirement you will meet the rest of them. In case you are not sure, just ask your "friendly MIS Managers", they just "LOVE" to have Mac's tie into their systems. If they tell you it won't work, just send me a message and I will be glad to help you in any way I can.
How do you use it:
1. I would recommend that you export each and every script and read the remarks placed in each script so you understand what these simple but powerful scripts can do for you.
2. After reviewing each script, modify those few that require your password and logon-id. Each one has been marked where the changes need to be made.
3. If you cannot get your hands on a Rolmphone 244pc manual to find the codes for the Repdials keys drop me a line and I will upload the codes for those. If you have the codes or there is enought in the example I supplied then program your Repdials next.
4. Set your startup script (I would recommend 'TSO' after you are familiar with how the process really works, to start with you should use 'IBM7171' and then 'Logon')
5. Verify your Communications & Terminal settings with your "Really Friendly" Tech. Support/Communications Specialist. These settings are what I use every day in my office with my little Mac+.
6. Hook a normal modem cable up to the 244MAC and go for it!
Those of you that have larger Mac's(2 Meg & up) will enjoy the mixed Mac and Host environments because it allows you to cut data directly out of the host and past it into your Mac application.
Everybody gets to do Cut, Copy, & Paste on a Mainframe as long as you are careful and dont try to do more than one record at a time except on unnumbered datasets.
Everyone who has ever used a CRT has hated the arrow keys, well by holding down the 'Option & Command Keys' and clicking the mouse where you want the cursur you can forget arrow keys, if you have Trapeze(Wow!, what a Package!!) you should already be used to this combination.
Special Keys:
Insert Key: the Keypad '.' hit once for insert mode, 2nd time for reset.
Clear key: the Keypad 'Enter' once to clear, 2nd time to redisplay.
ATTeNtion: the Keypad '*'
PA1 Option & the Keypad '*'
PA2 Option and the Keypad '-'
Now the bad news:
If you get this working at your installation and want to SHARE it with your co-workers or anyone else please do so as long as you drop me a line and tell me what kind of problems you encountered starting it up and what you did to correct them.
I WOULD ALSO ASK YOU NOT TO SELL THESE SCRIPTS TO ANYONE, BECAUSE THEY ARE MEANT TO HELP THE MAC COMMUNITY AND WERE NOT INTENDED AS A COMMERCIAL VENTURE.
Please leave this read me file with any copies of the settings you pass on.
One last note: Please be sure to show this system to your friendly IBM Marketing Rep. they will LOVE IT!!!!
